Jacqueline Szeto

Jacqueline graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. She has over 24 years of experience in capital markets in Asia and North America. Jacqueline worked at TD Securities for 20 years and was Vice President Director in Debt Capital Markets, Institutional Fixed Income Sales. She also served as a board member and former president of Women in Capital Markets, chaired its Benchmarking study and Managing Motherhood. Since 2012 Jacqueline served on the Board of Governors of Branksome Hall. In 2013, Jacqueline joined Canso Investment Counsel as Vice President, Investment Programs and earned her Canadian investment Manager (CIM) designation in 2014. Jacqueline also chairs membership service at the Canadian Bond Investors Association (CBIA).
Faye Lee

Faye Lee

CFA, B.Comm, Assistant Director of Research & Portfolio Manager
Faye graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2004 (Chancellor’s Gold Medalist in Commerce, Trinity College). She worked at Deloitte & Touche LLP as a transfer pricing analyst before joining Standard & Poor’s in 2007 where she worked as a credit analyst, covering Canadian utility and power companies. She joined Canso as a research analyst in 2012 and is currently the Assistant Director of Research and a Portfolio Manager. She was awarded her CFA charter in 2014.
Bob Swan

Bob Swan

Director, Canso Investment Counsel Ltd.
Following graduation from the University of Western Ontario in 1967 with an MA in Econometrics, Bob joined Sun Life Assurance as an equity research analyst. After two years of managing equities with Gerbro Corp., Bob joined the then fledgling TAL Investment Counsel. During his eighteen TAL years, his primary focus was global asset mix and debt markets. He was a major contributor to making TAL one of Canada’s largest and most successful money managers. In 1991, Bob was one of two entrepreneurs who created the Clean Environment Funds. In 1996, he joined CT Investment Management Gro up as Chief Investment Officer and then assumed management of the Asian portfolio. Bob completed his second MA in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology at University of Toronto in 1992. Bob joined Canso in 2000 and his prime focus is the management of international portfolios.
Heather Mason-Wood

Heather Mason-Wood

Heather attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1983. She graduated from the McMaster MBA program with a specialization in Finance in 1985. She then worked as a representative for Investors Group for two years before joining The Bank of Nova Scotia in 1988. She held many positions including Manager Corporate Credit, Manager Corporate Banking, Director of Risk Management, and Senior Relationship Manager Commercial Banking in her 15-year career with the bank. Heather joined Canso in February 2003 and in 2005 she was awarded her CFA charter. Heather is responsible for credit analysis and portfolio management as well as marketing and client servicing.
Doug Grieve

Doug attended Queens University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1992. Doug worked at BMO Capital Markets for over fourteen years, holding a number of positions, including Managing Director, Institutional Preferred Share Trading. In 2009, Doug founded Slater Asset Management Inc., a boutique Investment Counsel, specializing in preferred share investing. Doug holds the designation of Portfolio Manager and has joined Lysander as a sub-advisor for the new Lysander – Slater Preferred Share Fund, launched in January 2015.

John joined Scotia McLeod in 2000, and brings over 35 years of experience to The O'Connor Group helping affluent investors develop, manage and create wealth. John spent twenty five years in theInternational Money Markets, trading Fixed Income and Foreign Exchange, working in New York and London. In addition to holding a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics and Business, John has achieved the Personal Financial Planner (PFP®) designation from the Canadian Securities Institute and holds a Level II Insurance License. Vivek Verma has been a Financial Pipeline contibutor since 2003. Vivek attended the University of New Delhi, graduating with a Masters in Economics in 1994. In 1997 he completed the MBA program at University of Manchester. Vivek then worked as a Senior Analyst, Credit Rating at ICRA, Moody’s Indian affiliate for three years. He then moved to HCL Technologies as Manager of Investor Relations for two years. He joined Canso in 2002 as a Research Analyst. Vivek was awarded his CFA charter in 2004 and is now a portfolio manager with Canso.
Frank Stadler

Frank Stadler is principal and founder of Crusader Asset Management Inc., an investment management company that provides advice to institutional and retail investors. Frank has nearly 30 years of capital markets experience, having held many management positions at a Canadian Schedule 1 bank. He was also a portfolio manager and global head of derivatives advisory for one of the largest mutual fund companies in Canada, where he managed two funds with assets under management in excess of $3 billion.
Marg Spina

Marg Spina

Councillor, City of Kamloops
Marg Spina is a second term Kamloops City Councillor, and also a Thompson Nicola Regional District Director. She was elected President of the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) in 2013 and has been on the executive board since 2009. Born in Vancouver, B.C, Marg Spina has lived in many different communities and airbases across Canada. She moved to Kamloops in 1976, was the first female debt counsellor in B.C., and was promoted to BC Regional Consumer Affairs Manager. Marg is a founding member of the BC Council on autism and served on the Ministry of Social Services Autism parent advisory group, and the Kamloops Community Health Council by government appointment. Marg developed and ran the Giant Steps West autism therapy centre for 5 years as a volunteer, which continues today as the Chris Rose Centre. In 1992, she was awarded the Governor General 125 Award for Community Service. Marg owns and operates Spina Consulting Services. Her years of employment cover many areas, from the Broadcast Centre, CFJC TV, to on-reserve First Nation’s health training and community development. She writes consumer finance articles for the Financial Pipeline, and provides community credit and debt workshops for disadvantaged people. In 2007 she was appointed to the College of Licensed Professional Nurses as a public representative by the government.
Chand Sooran

Chand Sooran

Chand Sooran has been a Financial Pipeline contributor since 1998. Chand has broad and deep experience investing across the capital structure. Most recently, he helped start up the distressed value team at CQS with positions across the capital structure, eventually running a parallel long/short value equity book independently. His role as Portfolio Manager included membership in the HoldCo creditors’ committee in the Six Flags Chapter 11 case and membership in the steering committee and the creditors’ committee for Nell noteholders in the LyondellBasell Chapter 11 case. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Analyst at Columbus Hill Capital Management, a high profile value fund, covering Airlines, Telecoms, Media and Technology in equities and in credit. Prior to going to business school at MIT Sloan, he spent approximately six years trading foreign exchange, principally as a market maker for foreign exchange options. In addition to being a graduate of MIT, Chand is a graduate of the University of Toronto Schools, the Royal Military College of Canada and Queen’s University, as well as being a CFA Charterholder and being certified as a Financial Risk Manager by the Global Association of Risk Professionals. After graduating from RMC, Chand was a commissioned officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. Currently, Chand is the Chief Investment Officer for Point Frederick Capital Management, LLC.
Brad Meiers

Brad Meiers was a Corporate Debt Specialist and has been a Financial Pipeline contributor since 2015. Brad graduated from The University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987. He joined TD Bank Financial Group in 1987 and worked in various capacities in capital markets. During his tenure at TD Securities, Brad traded many fixed income products including government, strip, provincial, real return and corporate bonds. Brad also worked in TD's London and Tokyo offices before returning to Toronto to focus on market making corporate bonds in 1995. In 2002, Brad became the Head of Corporate Trading . And leveraging off his strong investor relationships, Brad became the Head of Debt Syndication at TD Securities in 2009 until 2014. Brad has been frequently quoted in Bloomberg articles and national papers.
Timothy Hicks

Tim Hicks has been a Financial Pipeline contributor since 2009. Tim graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1981 and earned his CFA charter in 1990. He joined General Reinsurance Corporation in Toronto as a facultative underwriter in 1981. In 1987, Tim joined SEI Financial Services as an Account Executive, specializing in portfolio performance evaluation and manager research. Tim then joined the Asset Consulting Group of Towers Perrin in 1989 and spent four years there consulting to institutional clients on manager search and asset allocation policy. Tim joined Russell Investments Canada in 1993 and held a variety of roles including Research Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Tim then served as Chief Investment Officer for Canada and Director of North American Equity in Russell’s U.S. head office in Tacoma, Washington. Tim joined Canso in 2009 where he is responsible for product development and also contributes to compliance, client service, and portfolio management.
Robert Featherby

Robert Featherby

Fixed Income Portfolio Manager, Yorkville Asset Management
Rob Featherby has been a Financial Pipeline contributor since 2000. Robert worked as an electrical engineer in the Aerospace industry before beginning his investment career in 1991 at Beutel Goodman. Most recently, Robert was V.P. Fixed Income at BMO Asset Management where he co-managed approximately $5 Billion in fixed income investments, including the $1.5 Billion BMO Bond Fund. Over the past 20 years he has successfully steered portfolios through two credit crises and numerous economic cycles. Robert obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from Queen’s University. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) profes- sional designation from the CFA Institute.
John P. Carswell

John Carswell has been a Financial Pipeline contributor since 1996 and was one of the original founders of the Financial Pipeline website. John graduated from the Royal Military College with a Bachelor of Arts (Commerce) and served as an Air Force navigator. He then earned an MBA degree from Queen’s University (Dean’s List, Award in Finance) in 1985. John completed the Chartered Financial Analyst program and was awarded a CFA charter in 1988. He began his investment career at Mutual Life of Canada in 1985 where he was an Investment Analyst in the Private Placement and Corporate Debt area. He then moved to TAL Investment Counsel Ltd. In 1988 where he was Vice President, Fixed Income, responsible for credit analysis and specialty fixed income products. In 1992, John moved to Foyston, Gordon & Payne, and was the Partner responsible for fixed income and preferred shares. He founded Canso Investment Counsel Ltd. in 1997.

Malcolm Morrison spent 15 years as Markets Editor with The Canadian Press News Agency after successfully completing the Canadian Securities Course. He produced stories on the Toronto and New York markets that were published daily by major news outlets across the country, including the major dailies in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax. Malcolm is particularly interested in investor education and turned out scores of personal finance stories while at CP, including everything from borrowing to invest to getting a good divorce settlement.

Frank has had a long career on Bay Street as a financial market economist and forecaster and has been Chief Economist for RBC Dominion Securities, Director of Fixed Income Research for TD Securities and Manager of Economic Forecasting for Coopers & Lybrand Consulting.
